Botany :

Description : Terrestrial, perennial, tufted herb. Roots fibrous, white or brown. Stems triangular, solid, glabrous. Stipules absent. Leaves simple, not lobed or divided, sessile, linear, more than 2 cm long/wide, margin entire, apex acute, base clasping, parallel-veined. Flowers bisexual, grouped together in a terminal umbel, sessile, yellow, red or brown, petals absent. Fruit a nut.

Biology :

Reproduction by seeds.

Phenology :

Flowering and fruiting throughout the year.

Ecology :

Found in open damp places: grassy fields, fallow rice fields, roadsides and river banks.

Distribution :

Central and South America; Africa; Iberian Peninsula and Italy; Middle East; Indian subcontinent, SE Asian subcontinent, China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and Pacific Islands.
